Call for partners and collaborations to deliver a simulation exercise and a surveillance training course for Fusarium TR4.

The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Secretariat led activities to prevent the introduction and spread of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense Tropical Race (TR4) in 2021, including setting up the Implementation and Capacity Development Committee (IC) Team on Fusarium TR4. In 2023, CPM-17 requested the IPPC Secretariat to coordinate global action on Fusarium TR4. The IPPC Secretariat is advancing this global action in the framework of the project “FAO support to COMESA trade facilitation programme (GCP/INT/387/COM)” and is seeking support from the IPPC Community to deliver a simulation exercise and a surveillance training course for Fusarium TR4.

The IPPC Secretariat is looking for:

  1. Ad honorem experts with significant knowledge of surveillance to design and deliver a virtual course, with global impact, on surveillance, including detection, delimitation, monitoring, and epidemiological data management on Fusarium TR4.
  2. Partners and collaborations to provide technical support and advice to deliver a national simulation exercise for Fusarium TR4 in one African country.

Instructions for making nominations for experts on surveillance:

Nominations of experts should consider individuals with combined experience and knowledge in:

Each nomination must be accompanied by the following documentation, available at this link:

  1. Completed Nominee details and summary of expertise form - all sections should be completed, including contact details. A clear description of the nominee’s expertise is required. MS Word version of the document is preferred. The file should be named as follows: COUNTRY_SURNAME_First name_Summary.
  2. The nominee’s Curriculum Vitae (CV) – electronic copy of the nominee’s CV (only as a word processing file such as MS Word) with the file named as follows: COUNTRY_SURNAME_Firstname_CV. MS Word version of the document is preferred. 

Submissions should be sent to the IPPC Secretariat by e-mail to Preet PARMAR ([email protected]) and Camilo BELTRAN MONTOYA ([email protected]) no later than 15 February 2024. The name of the nominating country, RPPO or international organization and the words “Call for Experts for the surveillance course on TR4” should be placed in the subject line of the email message.

Instructions for partners and collaborations:

National or regional plant protection organisations (NPPOs or RPPOs), international entities and academic institutions, are invited to express interest to partner and collaborate with the IPPC Secretariat to deliver a simulation exercise in an African country by contacting Preet PARMAR ([email protected]) and Camilo BELTRAN MONTOYA ([email protected]).

The subject line of the email message should include the name of the nominating country, RPPO, or international organization and the words “Call for partners and collaboration for the simulation exercise on TR4”.
