Summary

Monochamus has been under continued official surveillance since 2000. Rare interceptions / transient findings of M. sartor, M. sutor and M. urussovii (altogether < 10 pre-surveillance records and a total of 7 in 2004 and 2008) have all been associated with wood imports.

It has been hypothesized that any possible original population of Monochamus in Denmark would have been wiped out when in the 18th-19th century coniferous forest disappeared almost entirely. It has also been hypothesized that presently neither climatic conditions nor forestry practices in Denmark favor Monochamus establishment. Absence of Monochamus spp. results in negligible risk of infestation of Pine wood nematode, Bursaphelenchus xylophilus in Denmark.

Danger
nil
