Short Description

The Republic of Ghana has been host to the Fall Armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda) during the latter part of 2016 in isolated locations throughout the country. In March this year, reports of the presence of this invasive and destructive caterpillars were initially made in some districts in the Ashanti and Brong/Ahafo regions. With time, it spread to almost every corner of the country.

Sensing the potential threat of the attack on food security and the economy, the Honourable Minister of Food and Agriculture initiated and constituted a National Task Force on the Fall Armyworm to devise strategies and interventions to combat and contain the pest. The National Task Force has since initiated measures to contain the situation using chemical action.
