Short Description

The rational for Phytosanitary Requirements for the NPPO of Ghana is to safeguard Biodiversity/Biosecurity within and outside the country. Reasons for Bio-Security measures for the country: 1. For rapid trans-boundary movement of humans and materials 2. Removal of quantity restriction in international trade 3. Threats posed by incursion of Pests and Diseases of Plants, Animals and Humans. 4. Threats posed by Living Modified Organism (LMO's) 5. Threats posed by Bio-Terrorism

The NPPO of Ghana as a signatory to the International Plant Protection Convention puts in measures within the IPPC regulations to be able to fulfill the requirements to access the international market and to prevent the introduction and spread of exotic pest
