Geographical Distribution
Spodoptera frugiperda specimens verified so far were detected in various locations in the Limpopo Province, Gauteng Province, North West Province and Mpumalanga Province.
Summary

Fall Army Worm was positively identified from larvae samples collected in the Limpopo Province and allowed to pupate. Subsequently, moths were collected from the northern parts of Gauteng and positively identified as Fall Army Worm. The extent of the spread is currently being determined. This is the first time this pest is detected in South Africa.
