FAO AZ, 2016, Inception meeting of the MTF/AZE/007/STF: STDF/PG/316 Strengthening phytosanitary inspection and diagnostic services in Republic of Azerbaijan

Cooperation by way of the project MTF /AZE/007/STF Strengthening phytosanitary inspection and diagnostic services in Azerbaijan and the STDF/PG/350 project Global Phytosanitary Manuals, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Training Kits Project has resulted in the translation of a total of five IPPC Guidelines into Russian. The two latest Russian translations cover the Operation of a National Plant Protection Organization and Establishing a National Plant Protection Organization.

The importance of these guidelines to Russian-speaking countries in particular, was highlighted by the lead technical officer of the project that supported these translations. Hafiz Muminjanov also noted the usefulness of the guides as an overall tool that will strengthen national institutions and support their alignment with international requirements. The overall objective of the MTF /AZE/007/STF project in Azerbaijan was to improve phytosanitary inspection and diagnostic services of the State Phytosanitary Control Service and the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan. In supporting these translations, the project also contributes to the whole region.

The IPPC Secretariat supports the implementation of the IPPC through the development of IPPC technical resources and encouraging their use and accessibility to all IPPC Contracting. Technical resources like the translated Guides provide Contracting Parties accurate and up-to-date information, are peer reviewed to ensure consistency with the IPPC and its standards, and are globally applicable and hence adaptable to suit national needs. The IPPC Guides continue to serve as a foundation for capacity development activities.

The IPPC Secretariat would like to acknowledge the valuable contribution of the project MTF /AZE/007/STF Strengthening phytosanitary inspection and diagnostic services in Azerbaijan and Hafiz Muminjanov, FAO plant protection technical officer and the lead for this project. The following guides can be found in Russian:

Operation of a National Plant Protection Organization

Establishing a National Plant Protection Organization

Import Verification guide - A guide to import verification for national plant protection organizations

Export Certification - A guide to export certification for national plant protection organizations

Guide to Delivering Phytosanitary Diagnostic Services

The IPPC Secretariat would also like to extend an invitation to any interested parties in getting involved and supporting the development of future IPPC technical resources, translations and/or printing of IPPC Technical Resources.
