Importing plant and plant products just got a lot easier in Trinidad and Tobago. Importers can now apply online for authorization to bring regulated plant material into their country. The new online form allows traders to apply for plant trade permits using a secure and user-friendly application, from their homes and on their mobile devices.
According to Deputy Director Research (Ag.) in the Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries (MALF), Deanne Ramroop, the simplified electronic process facilitates a one-stop shop for plant import permit applications, which will not only reduce processing times but cater to increased efficiency and set service standards for the processing of all applications.
The Research Division of MALF together with the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) hosted an Online Plant Import Permit Registration Drive whose purpose was to attract manual applicants of plant import permits in the Ministry s database, and expose them to the benefits and ease of accessing and interfacing with the online service. Technical officers from MALF and MTI collaborated in providing guidance to the prospective applicants on the permit registration process, including individual prerequisite online registrations via the online platforms.
The online service was created by the MTI via its Single Electronic Window (SEW) - TTBizLink platform. Applications for Import Licenses for Animal and Food Related Products as well as Export Health Certificates can also be done through TTBizLink.
