Posted on Wed, 09 Feb 2022, 08:33

Deadline on Mon, 07 Mar 2022, 23:55

The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Secretariat is soliciting case studies for inclusion in the IPPC Guide on Contingency planning for outbreaks of quarantine pests (2019-012).

Deadline: Submissions are due 07 March 2022.

Purpose

This call is intended to solicit case studies that may be used to enhance content of the IPPC Guide to support the implementation of contingency planning of quarantine pests (2019-012).

We are looking for specific examples or stories that describe the activities that NPPOs have undertaken to implement contingency planning for outbreaks of quarantine pests and including stories about failed initiatives, which are often just as interesting as the successes. Case studies should focus on a particular issue related to contingency planning for outbreaks of quarantine pests and describe what the NPPO has done to prepare and respond to the challenges, including: outcomes, impacts, lessons learned and plans to enhance future activities related to contingency planning.

Scope of the Guide on Contingency planning

This IPPC guide will be a comprehensive manual that will improve understanding of contingency planning and aims to provide resources and implementation experiences to national plant protection organizations (NPPOs), regional plant protection organizations (RPPOs) and relevant institutions to develop and implement effective contingency plans to address outbreaks of quarantine pests.

The Guide will include the following Chapters: Introduction and Purpose, Organizational arrangements, Background information on the pest, Official actions based on presumptive diagnosis, Official actions to eradicate the pest after final confirmation, Review of measures in cases of prolonged official actions, Determining completion of official action, Recovery and compensation, Evaluation and revision of contingency plan. Additional information may be found in the Specification for the IPPC Guide on Contingency planning for outbreaks of quarantine pests (2019-012), which is available at: https://assets.ippc.int/static/media/files/resources/2022/01/2019-012_ContPlanGuide_Spec_2021-10-06_BPZohbl.pdf .
